    Use ranks 2–9, T, J, Q, K, A and suits c, d, h, s. Example: As Kh. Board: blank or 3–5 cards.

    How to compare Hold’em hands

Select the number of players and type two hole cards for each. Leave the board empty for a preflop comparison, or enter the three flop cards, four cards through the turn, or all five river cards. Press Calculate chances. The calculator removes every known card from the deck before sampling the remaining board, so an ace already in a player’s hand cannot appear again.

The Chance column includes each player’s share of ties. Win means winning outright, while Tie means participating in a split. Tie percentages can add to more than 100 across players because multiple players share the same tied outcome. Chances across all players total approximately 100%, with small displayed differences caused by rounding to one decimal place.

    Worked example: the board plays

Give Player 1 the cards 2c 3d and Player 2 the cards 4c 5d. Enter the board As Ks Qs Js Ts. Both players use the royal flush on the board, so each has a 50% chance, 0% outright wins, and 100% ties. This complete-board result is exact. Remove the board to explore how those same hands perform before the flop.

Use hand chances as a learning aid

Comparing a pair against two overcards is a useful way to understand why a favorite can still lose a single hand. With an incomplete board, this tool uses Monte Carlo simulation rather than examining every possible runout. A browser worker keeps that computation off the main page so you can still scroll, change an input, or cancel on a phone.

It does not give strategy advice or account for an unknown opponent’s cards. Position, stack sizes, and how each hand is played still matter. Review the home poker rules guide for showdown agreements and the home poker apps guide for tools that help manage the night rather than analyze a single hand.

Track it while you play. Settle it when you finish.

If you run a regular home cash game, the calculation is only one part of the job. HG Poker keeps buy-ins and rebuys together while you play, guides the final chip count, and saves the result for next time. Start free and see your current allowance in the app.

    Frequently asked questions

What does the Chance column mean?+

Chance is a hand’s expected share of the result if all remaining board cards are dealt and nobody folds. A sole win counts as a full share; a two-way tie counts as half. It does not predict who wins one particular hand, because folds and unknown opponent hands are not modeled.

How accurate is the hand chances tool?+

With cards still to come, it simulates 5,000 uniformly sampled board runouts. Results vary between runs; a heads-up result near 50% has roughly a 1.4 percentage-point 95% sampling margin. A complete five-card board is evaluated exactly, with no simulation uncertainty.

    How do I enter cards?+

Use two-character cards separated by spaces, such as As Kh for ace of spades and king of hearts. The suits are c for clubs, d for diamonds, h for hearts, and s for spades. Use T or 10 for a ten. Every physical card may appear only once.

Can I compare more than two players?+

Yes, choose two, three, or four players and supply two known hole cards for each. You may leave the board blank or enter a flop, turn, or river. Unknown opponent hands, Omaha, and folded dead cards are outside this simple tool’s scope.

Does the calculation send my hands to a server?+

No. Hand evaluation and random runouts happen in a worker in your browser, so the page can remain responsive while it calculates. No account is required, and the tool does not store entered hands. Standard site analytics are separate from the calculation.
